FYI....there is a photo in the February Kentucky Explorer (page 84) that shows several Stampers: a Lucy Stamper, Joel Stamper, Oscar Stamper and Ruby Stamper. It is a large group photo that includes Taulbee, Little and Lukes families also. The photo was taken at Mary, KY in 1919.

Ina Wallace wrote: A wonderful book, ABSTRACTS FROM THE PA GAZETTE; 1748-1765, Genealogical Publ. CO, 1977, portrays the life of our ancestors in the colonies during the mid 1700's. At that time Benj. Franklin and David Hall produced this newspaper, which solely covered NJ, three lower counties of Delaware, and MD. It also has articles about Boston, NY, and Annapolis, and well as frequent mention of southern colonies.

Holbrook and allied transaction provided by Sheryl McNeely Shaw, Crosby, TX who says:

"I am forwarding the following as it has a STAMPER as a witness in one of the entries. My HOLBROOK, COBB, CLIFTON, and other lines are continually woven in and out of the STAMPER lines - whether it is by marriage, as neighbors, etc. Thought this little tidbit of info might be of help to someone.

A new development on the HOLBROOK list - J.C. Halbrooks, who is "the" Holbrook researcher surprised us all by joining us online last week. J.C. has done EXTENSIVE research here and abroad on the HOLBROOK line for 20 or 30 years. The posts and information he is putting forth on the Holbrook mailing list is excellent. I will continue to look for any mention of STAMPER and forward it to you."

As I photocopied it. Sandra Jones
The following was contributed by Sherry Griggs as extracted by her friend, Sandra on a trip to London.; Thought I would forward a note that a cousin sent who is presently researching in London and surround areas for several family names along with the name STAMPER. I have given her the first known John Stamper line for refrences. She has just started and the information is slight but interesting. Sherry (NC) Hi Sherry- Am still in England but wanted to send along some items that I found at the Society of Genealogists here in London. I have been there every day for a week working on other branches of the history and tried to find something on Stamper while I was there. There is a mention of Stamper in the family history file of a family called Brooker however, this document was out...being used, or possibly misfiled. I looked for it every day and could not find the book. The Dictionary of Historical English names listed Stamper. Entry follows: Stamper: occupational surname...probably a stamper of coins...a mint man. The name is found as early as 1273 in county Cambridgeshire, listing a John Stamper. In 1658, a Robert Stamper is listed in the rolls of county Yorkshire. A John James Stamper and Ann Stamper are listed in the marriage records of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, and between 1699 and 1700, a Robert Stamper and Ann Mann are listed in the marriage licenses. The name Polley or Polly was also noted. (re: Mary Polly) the reference follows: Polley/Polly-Bapt.; a varient of Pauley; locally a variant of Pooley. In 1574 a Robert Polley and Grace Gooddaye were issued a marriage license in London. In 1808 a William Polley and Elizabeth Hodsdon married at St. George's in Hanover Square in London. I know this is not much but I thought it was interesting. Hope you also find it to be so.
