Know all men by these presents (sic) that I, Jonathan Stamper, of As he C ou nty and State of North Carolina, being weak of body but of sound a nd di spo sing judgement, and knowing that it is appointed that all m en on ce to di e, do this day make this my last will and testament in mann er a nd fo rm as follows In the first place I recommend that all my just d eb ts be paid (duly? fully ?), the tract of land that I live on of 300 ac re s, my wife, she is to ha ve during her lifetime also all household furn itu re and clothing and al so what money may be on hand or owing to m e, s he is to have to support h er while she lives- and after tha t, ea ch of my children being 8 alive, ge ts one cow a piece, the remai nd er of my stock I want to be sold at publi ck (sic) sale giving a reason ab le credit and money that arises therefr om to be retained in the h an ds of my executors for the use and suppo rt of my wife during her l if e. Jno McMillanJonathan, Jr., lived at first in Wilkes Countyunty., N C, b ut s eems to have moved to the waters of Cranberry Creek, which lat er beca me As he Countyunty., NC. His will was dated April 9, 1822, and w as prov ed in Fe bruary of 1831. He refers to a 300-acre tract of land, wi fe, a nd eight chi ldren. Jobe is the only one of his children that is ide ntifi ed by na me in the will. Jobe was left a mare named Yellow and a Cou ntyunt ylt nam ed Bounce. Jonathan, Jr., lived at first in Wilkes Countyun ty., N C, but seems to ha ve moved to the waters of Cranberry Creek, whi ch lat er became Ashe Countyu nty., NC.
