Biography of G W Stamper

Dad Stamper was born in Smoky Valley, Ky Nov 28, 1856. His mother was Susan Fannin who was born July 14, 1834 in
Carter Couny, KY and died April 1932. His father was Jackson Stamper, born on Kentucky River in 1827 - died 1900.
He was the son of John Stamper of N Carolina, who was born July 10, 1799 - died 1882. His Grandmother was
Sarah Stamper of Kentucky.

Dad had seven brothers and five sisters. Two girls and six boys are living up to date, and all are living in Smoky Valley
at the present time, except one sister who is in Lawrence, Kans.

While in Smoky Valley, Dad worked in the general store and there he met a girl, Ollie Lyons, who was visiting in the village.
They were sweethearts seven months, and married Jan 2, 1882. On June 6 - 1883, Albert, their first child was born.
On Feb 6 - 1885, the second son, Louis arrived.

The family moved from Smoky Valley by train March 28, 1885; and arrived in Dodge City, Kansas four days later.
He took up a claim of 160 A twenty miles south off there and lived in a one room sod house on the farm. He farmed and
also worked some on the railroad. It was here, three children were born.

Bertha, June 30, 1887; Warner, Jan 15, 1889, Frankie, Mar 21, 1890, who died in Chicopee, Kansas on Dec 12, 1891.
They moved by train to Pittsburg, Kansas in Sept 1890, where dad worked in a coal pit. Dec 1891, they went by train to
Chicopee where he continued his work in the pits. There were three children born to them here. Roscoe, Dec 14, 1891;
Ona, April 23, 1894; Clara, Sept 5, 1897. In 1898, they moved Missouri and settled in Nashville. They made this trip
in two or three days in a covered wagon. Roy was born here on July 3rd, 1899. They moved to Medoc, Missouri in 1902,
where Arthur was born May 22nd of the same year. In 1904, Dad took his family to Mulberry, Kansas; then to Eureka
in 1909. Oct 1910, they migrated to Texas and settled in Big Wells until 1913. It was in June of that year, they traveled
in a covered wagon with their meager belongings to Kaufman, Texas. Here they made their home until Dec 1922, at which
time they moved to San Antonio. (Picture of homeplace inserted here). This was their home until Mother passed away
Nov 28, 1927. Dad passed away in San Antonio Apr 15, 1952 on Father's Day. Laid to rest by Mother in San Antonio June 17th.

GEORGE JR. Carter Co., Ky 1896
A. C. ? 1898

LEWIS ? 1902
ROBERT RUSSELL Eby, Ky 1905

ROY STAMPER ? 1910

George Washington Stamper (1856-1952, my great-grandfather) was living in Chicopee, KS in 1896 when he, allegedly,
married Sarah Eda McGlone. (See biography I sent you to be posted on your website). To the best of my knowledge,
Sarah never left Carter Co., Ky except when she lived in Ohio with her son, Robert, where she died in 1953 and gave birth to
Robert in Eby, Ky (I don't know what county that is in). She was buried in Carter Co. in Bethel Cemetery. Also, on your website,
it says that Sarah's husband died prior to the 1910 Census which lists her, age 35, as a widow with 8 children. Sarah's son,
A.C. was probably born in Carter Co., Ky because his brother before him and his sister after him both were born there.
I do not know where her sons, Roscoe and Roy were born.

When A.C. (Sarah's son) was born in 1898, my great-grandfather was living in Missouri with Ollie & their kids, in 1902
when her son, Lewis, was born, he was having his last child with Ollie Lyons, Arthur Chester Stamper, and living in Medoc,
Missouri, in 1904 they were in Mulberry, Kansas, in 1909 they were in Eureka, Kansas, and in 1910, the year Sarah's last
child, Roy, was born,

George, Ollie & kids migrated to Big Wells, Texas. In 1913 they moved to Kaufman, Texas, and in 1922 he and Ollie
made their home in San Antonio, Texas. This is all according to my grandfather's (Warner Austin Stamper) biography
about his family written in 1939 and dictated by his father, George Washington Stamper (1856-1952).

It is logistically impossible for my great-grandfather, George Washington Stamper (1856-1952), to have been married
to both of these women and fathered all the children from both these families. He would have had to have a suped-up,
gas-powered, V-8 engine covered wagon to have been with both these women and fathered their children while he was
traipsing all over the place with Ollie and their kids and working in coal pits and at other various jobs. He and Ollie
were still married when she died in 1927 in San Antonio, Texas and they are buried side-by-side in Mission Burial Park
in San Antonio, Texas. (Enclosed is a picture of their monument.)

The marriage certificate or bond for George Washington Stamper and Sarah Eda McGlone, does not state helpful
information on George like his parents names, age, or birthdate. It is, therefore, not evidence of who she married.

It seems to me that no valid evidence was ever presented regarding WHICH George Washington Stamper
Sarah Eda McGlone married. With no convincing or demonstrable evidence, I am compelled to accept the assertion
that she married G.W. Stamper (1856-1952) as untrue. One possibility is that Sarah married G.W. Stamper born
in 1872 who was the son of Washington Stamper (1838-1908?) and his first wife, Margaret. Washington was the son
of John Stamper (1799-1882). The G.W. born in 1872 would have been a cousin to my great-grandfather and they
could have been in contact which might explain the weird coincidence that four of their children's names by different
women are the same: Lewis, Roscoe, Roy & A.C. (Arthur Chester).

My great-grandfather's children's names are mentioned first, then Sarah's children after that. Lewis was born in
1885 & 1902, Roscoe in 1891 & 1908, Roy in 1899 & 1910, A.C. was born in 1902 & 1898?? As cousins, these two
George Washington Stamper's may have shared children's names with each other, but we will never know what really happened,
as is often the case in genealogical research. The information on G.W. born in 1872 is sketchy and little is known about him.
In a conversation with my cousin, Robert Russell Stamper (Sarah's son), said his father abandoned the family after the
last child was born in 1910 and he has no pictures or information on him. At any rate, due to geographical restrictions
and limited transportation available during the later part of the 19th Century and the early 20th Century, there is no way
my great-grandfather was husband and father to both of these families.

I submit that Sarah Eda McGlone married someone other than George Washington Stamper (1856-1952) and would like the
information on your website changed unless someone out there can prove otherwise, and I don't think that is possible.
I further submit that no proof of their, alleged, marriage was ever given. She obviously married a man named
George Washington Stamper, but there are several gentlemen of that name to choose from.

True genealogy is all about providing documentation that can be considered proof and not just opinion from
unsubstantiated belief. Let me know what you think, Golden. I have attached a pic of George and Ollie's monument too.
When I get the chance I will send you info for the Stamper Family database. It has incorrect or missing info on my
grandfather, Warner Austin Stamper and his kids, one of which was my dad, Warner Lester Stamper (1916-2007. I will
also send info on me and my sisters and our kids to bring the line up to the present. My line is John Stamper (James W.),
Andrew Jackson Stamper, George Washington Stamper, Warner Austin Stamper and Warner Lester Stamper.

Sincerely,
Jean "Stamper" Saxton
