Rock Fork Cemeteries

Gayheart Cemetery

Located in the middle of pine trees and where you would least expect to find someone buried. Finding them here on the way up the mountain to the Howard Cemetery below was a total shock to me. I could not get a GPS reading due to brush and pine trees blocking signal.

R1N1, Gearheart/ P. W., Dec 12 1829, Nov 11 1885, age 57 years 28 Days-God is Able to Save his Heart's Delight --according to 1880 Floyd Census his name was Peter W,

R1N2, Gearheart/ Sarah, July 14 1821, Sept 13 1887, age 66 years 1month 29 Days- Sleep on Mother-Take thy rest

Howard Cemetery

Located near Floyd--Knott Line on top of mountain just above and behind the power lines at the mouth of Howard Branch . There is a fence around it and 6 sets of stones stacked on top of each other. There may be burials here but probably just field stones, They had no writing on them. Bill Francis was the one that told me where this cemetery was located and he said there was a Hershel Conley , 1908, 1946 killed by a train buried here and he had a headstone. Also a Isoore Howard buried here somewhere also. N37.28.408/W082.51.087 with GPS.

Francis Bolen Cemetery

Located on Rockfork on Point behind the Pine Trees and just off Route 80. Park at Wheatly Bolen Cemetery and climb the steep point. You may drive to the house on the hill and it is just a little walk behind it but they have a mean dog and may not be home but it would be worth a try. N37-26 629, W082-54-324. Will, if you have Street Atlas 4.0 or another good map program.

This cemetery is badly grown up and stones in bad shape. According to family tradition Wheatly Bolen was buried between his two women so that would mean the sandstone on his right would be his another of his two wives whose name was possibly Mary. Someone correct me if I am wrong, Please.

Whitley was what was written on his stone but everyone tells me his name is Wheatly. Also found an old stone seperated from rest and it had the letters B.B. carved on it. May have been old stone or footstone for Bitha Bolen but not sure. Michael Bolen, twin brother of Bruce Bolen is supposed to be buried here also. Chuckell Bolen was brother of Bruce is here and identified. Most was infants. Some had nice stones for their period of time but made of sandstone and names etc eroded away.

Lower Triplett Branch Cemeteries.

Located high on the hill at the mouth of this branch is a Cemetery I have not yet read. I have not figured out how to get to it yet. I tried the mining road and they would not let me go up it. Also another cemetery is up the mining road according to the map.

Bob Conley Cemetery

Located on the right side of 550 is this cemetery. It has a chain link fence beside it and a pine tree or two full of Lady bugs. No I didn't read it as the Lady Bugs was to bad for me. Also a small Cemetery just before you get to this one but I didn't read it also. These Cemeteries read and published in Joe' Skeens "East Kentucky Cemeteries " books. N37.26.805/W082.51.175 with GPS

Conley Cemetery

Located on Route 550 west of Lackey in the hollow behind the old Superior Supermarket and listed on a map as Motts Branch. A Saw mill is now located at the mouth where the supermarket used to. It may have been renamed under the new 911 names.

Located on Upper Triplett Branch, which is also known as Dry Fork, in the main head upon the hill above the road. It can be seen from the road. There is another cemetery located around the hill and hidden in the Grape vine patch. I think it is of Lee Triplett and one of his wives. I have the reading somewhere but have misplaced it at the present time.
